On August 26, 1893, the Bottineau Pioneer newspaper of North Dakota posted the following:
His Last Roll Call.
The death angel called the roll and Comrade Enos Peat, veteran of the late war and at his death a resident of this county, answered its summons, bravely and serenely as he had many times before faced cannon and musket.
