Putting Down Roots: The Ostmark Family

Rex Schneider pointed at the young man sitting on the Schneider sofa, “This is Jack Ostmark. He’s a Trooper.” Rex, a man of few words, always said more than most because his were chosen words–not the stream of consciousness we are so used to hearing.

Rex was a kind of physical structure to many of us, as much as a simple mortal. He was my parents’ dear friend. The father of my friends, Gary and Cindy. All were our neighbors across the Great Plutarch Swamp. Rex was a builder of buildings. One of the Schneider Brothers. And, in his final role, Rex was a judge in the New Paltz Justice Court.
